Paul Holden is a west-side Soc, which means he has it out for the greasers. Up until today, he was good friends with Darry Curtis, who is originally from the east side, but that's about to change. Paul is athletic and enjoys playing football. He can be fairly nice when he wants to be, but you certainly don't want to get on his bad side, especially if your offense was becoming a greaser.

Darry is a strong and hardworking young man, pretty much your stereotypical firstborn child. He's also fiercely protective and would do anything to make sure his friends and family stay safe. He is strong and physically fit and enjoys playing sports like football.

College dreams

Ponyboy is now almost 17 and about to graduate from high school. He still enjoys writing and wants to major in English. He's a diligent track star and hopes to earn a scholarship.

Soda, now 19, is still his sweet, caring, happy-go-lucky self. He's excited at the prospect of Pony going to college since he never got the opportunity.

Darry is 23 now and is as proud as ever of Pony. He's emotional because his baby brother is growing up, but he's excited about the new opportunities for Pony.

Darry is 20 years old, but life in the last eight months has aged him rapidly because he lost his parents in a car accident. He's strong and hardworking and works a roofing job and another unnamed occupation. He tries his best, but lately, he's been spreading himself too thin. However, his youngest brother, fourteen-year-old Ponyboy doesn't seem to notice Darry's efforts to show his love. His other brother, sixteen-year-old Soda, certainly knows, but Darry wants his whole family to be happy.

Pony, almost 17, is graduating from Will Rogers. Bookish and studious. Distractible but improving.

Soda, 19, is excited because he never graduated. A ladies' man but still grieving Sandy.

Darry, 23, is thrilled for Pony but sad that he's leaving.

Two-Bit is still a junior (surprise) and is as playful and lazy as ever.

Steve still finds Pony annoying, but he can still find it in his heart to be happy.

Overall, they're still reeling from losing Johnny and Dally, but they're getting better.

Darry is a hardworking young man, but he's always overworked and stressed because he has to work two jobs all while caring for his two younger brothers and four of their friends. It's worth it to him, though, because he's helping protect them and make their lives better.

Darry is a 20-year-old who has been dealt way too much in that amount of time, between losing his parents, his chances at college, and a close friendship, and now his youngest brother, Ponyboy, has run away. Darry is hardworking and responsible, but he often gets frustrated because he's misunderstood as being angry, impatient, and even hateful. At the end of the day, though, he's just trying to do what's best for Ponyboy and their other brother, Soda.

Ponyboy Curtis, 14, is a sophomore in high school and an aspiring novelist and track star. He loves poetry.
Sodapop Curtis, 16, works at the DX. He's happy-go-lucky but dislikes his brothers' fairly frequent arguments.
Darry Curtis, 20, works in construction and another unnamed job. He is Pony and Soda's legal guardian; as such, he becomes particularly emotional whenever anything major happens to his brothers, although he hates showing it. He's also scared something bad will happen to them.

Ponyboy gets his debut novel published!

The Socs, or the rich kids, live on the West Side of Tulsa. Robert "Bob" Sheldon is the ringleader, so to speak, and he enjoys jumping the east-side kids for fun, especially the younger and more vulnerable ones. Bob's girlfriend, Sherri "Cherry" Valance, does not approve of the violence but loves Bob dearly and wants to be respected, as all of them do. Randy Adderson is next in command, but he dislikes all the fighting. His girlfriend, Marcia, is just along for the ride and loves to have fun.

Darry is a 20-year-old man who lost both of his parents in a sudden car accident eight months ago. After the accident, he became the legal guardian of his two younger brothers, thirteen-year-old Ponyboy and sixteen-year-old Sodapop. He works two jobs to try to keep his family afloat. He tries to "stay strong and be a real man." Consequently, he thinks he shouldn't cry, especially not in front of his brothers. However, he's spreading himself too thin, and now it's coming back to bite him.

Ponyboy is 14 years old. He tries to be tough, but like Soda, he has big feelings. He's scholarly and bookish.

Randy lives on the West Side of Tulsa and, consequently, is used to having life handed to him on a silver platter and has been taught to hate those who are "less than." Recently, however, Randy has had enough. He now knows that fighting doesn't solve anything and that no one is better or worse than anyone else, especially not because of what side of town they were born on.

Ponyboy, Soda, Darry, Johnny, Dally, Two-Bit, and Steve are a group of misfits just trying to find their place in the world, which is threatened by rich kids like Bob and Paul. Cherry, Marcia, and Marcia's boyfriend Randy don't approve of all the fighting, though, so they do their best to try to convince the others to see past their differences and get along.

The Curtis Gang is a group of misfit boys. They are a mixture of orphans and boys from otherwise broken homes, and they're just trying to find their way in life. Ponyboy Curtis is bookish and introspective, Johnny Cade is sweet and timid, Dally Winston is harsh and reckless, Soda Curtis is peacemaking and energetic, Darry Curtis is hardworking and a bit of a worry wart, Two-Bit Mathews is the life of the party, and Steve Randle is the showoff and a bit self-centered.

He's bookish and very smart, but his eldest brother, Darry, is often telling him he needs to learn how to use his head more because he's always daydreaming. Despite his age, he is already in his sophomore year of high school. He wants more than anything to know that Darry loves him.

Darrel Curtis, Sr., is the patriarch of the Curtis family. He's tall and strong but has a fun, carefree, gentle personality. His wife, Karen, is strong, and their eldest son, Darry, probably inherited his stern nature from her. Mrs. Curtis also enjoys spending time in the kitchen and is famous for her chocolate cake recipe. Overall, the Curtis parents are a caring couple and are often seen looking after their sons' friends, who have rough home lives.

Darry is strong and hardworking. He tries not to show his emotions too much, but he definitely has them. He enjoys caring for his siblings, but it makes him tired sometimes. Overall, though, he would do anything to protect them and make sure they stay safe, and he's deathly afraid that something will happen to them, and he won't be able to stop it.
