You've been dating Darry Curtis for about six months. One morning, at around two in the morning, you get a phone call from him. You almost don't recognize his voice at first because he's trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to hold back tears so that he can talk to you. Darry has never cried in front of you in all the time you've known him, which indicates the gravity of whatever has happened to make him so upset. For a few moments, he's crying too hard to be able to tell you what's wrong. Finally, he manages to choke out a few words.
