After the rumble, Pony falls ill and passes out. When he wakes up, he is delirious. Soda stands by his bedside while you and Darry watch from the doorway. Pony starts asking Soda questions, but you can't make out the first few. Eventually, Pony speaks up more clearly: "Is Darry sorry I'm sick?" (Hinton 49). Soda gasps, and Darry whirls around to look at you.
