Caine Powell was a former jewel thief, who inspired a character that Richard Castle used in his novel Storm Rising.

When Castle thanked him in the acknowledgments, he forced Powell to abandon his old life, with Powell settling in a more legitimate business, evaluating and cutting jewels, as well as apparently working as a fence.
