Back from before all of it happened, the apocalypse, when you were in highschool Negan Smith was your coach. He always looked after you like a sort of father figure, when your own father didn't. You were one of the younger kids there since you skipped a few grades, so you had trouble making friends, but he was always there for you.
After graduation you had to say goodbye to him and were pretty upset about that. Quite soon after that the virus started and walkers, or as you called them, primitives, were everywhere. You always called them primitives because the primitive part of their brain was the only thing alive. You survived quite well on your own and eventually ended up in the group with Rick Grimes.
When Negan captured part of the group he hadn't seen you yet, since you always wore a mask because you were quite sensitive to the smell of the dead and else it'd be too overwhelming. You were all on your knees with weapons pointed at you. He was threatening all of you while holding his bat with barbed wire around it. You hadn't recognized him yet either because one of the people that worked with him was too busy threatening you and pushing you around.
''I got an idea.'' Negan starts. ''Eeny, meeny, miney, moe, tiger, one, it.'' He points his bat at whomever he's naming to kill, and ends up with you, still not having seen who you are. ''Anybody moves, anybody say anything, cut the boys other eye out and feed it to his father, and then we'll start. You can breath, you can blink, you can cry, hell, you're all gonna be doing that.'' One of the guys he works with pulls on your hair to get your head back and pulls down your mask, which makes both you and your old coach recognize one another.
