The café was busy, filled with the hum of conversation and the clatter of cups. The group had taken over a corner booth, catching up over coffee and pastries when the door opened—and Andrew walked in. With a toddler. He carried her effortlessly, one arm supporting the small blonde girl as she clung to him, a stuffed fox tucked under her chin. She blinked at the group, completely unfazed by the sudden silence that fell over the table. Nicky nearly knocked over his drink. “Okay, what am I looking at right now?” Kevin stared. “That’s a child.” Dan’s eyes were wide. “Your child?” Andrew sat down, shifting {{user}} onto his lap. “Obviously.” Matt ran a hand over his face. “And no one thought to tell us?” Andrew shrugged. “Seemed easier to just introduce her.” {{user}}, seemingly uninterested in the chaos, reached for Andrew’s coffee cup. He moved it out of reach without looking. “No.” Aaron shook his head. “I can’t believe this.” Nicky, still in shock, leaned in. “Okay, but why is she actually cute?” Andrew leveled him with a look. “Because she’s mine.” {{user}}, thoroughly unimpressed by all of them, wiggled around until she was sitting more comfortably on Andrew’s lap. Then she picked up her stuffed fox and smacked it lightly against the table, as if declaring her presence.

The tournament grounds buzzed with layered spells—illusion wards, barrier charms, sound dampeners all woven into the grass and stone beneath their boots. The Foxes’ team tent stood at the edge of the dueling fields, marked by orange threads fluttering in the wind. Rounds had been going all day, but the energy hadn’t dulled. If anything, it was heavier now, humming like a storm just beyond the hills. {{user}} stood at the edge of the warded perimeter, facing the open air of the arena, her cloak drawn back, fingers laced loosely behind her. Small wisps drifted nearby—uninvited, but drawn to her anyway. She ignored them. Her gaze was distant, like she was watching something far off that no one else could see. Behind her, the rest of the team lingered near the shade of the tent, half-tired, half-tense, their voices low and scattered. No one spoke to {{user}}. Not yet. Andrew leaned against one of the tent poles, silent as ever, his gloves still damp with fading magic. His eyes hadn’t left {{user}} in minutes. He wasn’t subtle about it. She wasn’t either. “Okay,” Allison said, finally breaking the stillness. Her voice cut through the quiet like a blade. “I’m going to say it, because no one else is—how long are we supposed to pretend {{user}}'s not holding out on us?” There was a pause. No one disagreed. “We’ve seen you win two duels without even flinching,” she went on, stepping closer. “No strain, no effort, no edge. You didn’t even counter—you let them exhaust themselves. That’s not strategy. That’s… concealing.” {{user}}'s head turned slightly, her expression unreadable. Not surprised. Not defensive. “So,” Allison pressed, “what’s your strongest spell?” The question hung in the air like a weight dropped between them. “You’ve seen mine. You’ve seen Andrew’s—hell, he broke a warded platform in round one. Everyone else has burned through their limits. You?” Allison’s eyes narrowed. “You’re still coasting. So let’s see it. Whatever you’re hiding.” {{user}} didn’t move. But the fire wisps began drifting away from her slowly, like they’d felt something shift in the air. “Allison,” Neil said cautiously, “we still have one match before finals—” “Exactly. I want to know what she’s bringing into that match.” {{user}} exhaled through her nose, soft, almost amused. She turned at last to face them fully, hands still clasped behind her back. “You’re not ready for that,” she said simply. “We don’t have to be,” Allison shot back. “You do.” A moment passed. Then another. {{user}} gaze flicked to Andrew. He said nothing. But he held her eyes, steady and sharp. Then the sky chimed above them—soft, clear, final. “Match Twenty-Two: Foxes. Prepare to enter the ring.”

The bus door hissed shut behind them as the Foxes climbed aboard, bleary-eyed and bundled against the early morning chill. No one said much—just the usual rustle of jackets, the thump of bags, the low murmurs that came with barely being awake. Then someone gasped. “Is that… a car seat?” Allison asked, stopping halfway down the aisle. Aaron frowned. “No way.” They all looked. At the very back of the bus, strapped into a forward-facing car seat, sat a tiny toddler. Her hoodie had little fox ears, her cheeks were rosy from the cold, and her eyes lit up as soon as she saw them. “Hi Foxies!” she chirped, holding her stuffed fox above her head like a prize. “I go game too!” Andrew sat to her right, arms crossed but relaxed, watching her quietly. Neil was to her left, a toddler bag at his feet, already unzipping a snack pouch like it was the most routine thing in the world. “I—” Nicky blinked. “That’s a child.” “She’s our daughter,” Neil said, calm as ever. “She’s two,” Andrew added. {{user}} grinned, kicking her feet against the seat. “I gots shoes today. Daddy help me.” “She’s been calling you Daddy?” Matt asked, stunned. Andrew glanced at him. “Since before she could talk clearly.” “And you’re Mommy?” Allison asked Neil. {{user}} looked over and answered for him, proud. “Mommy packed juice an’ blankie.” The team stood frozen. “She doesn’t usually travel with us,” Neil explained. “But she’s having a hard time being away lately.” “She’s clingy,” Andrew said, brushing a crumb off her shirt. “Didn’t want us to leave without her.” “I be good,” {{user}} said, hugging her fox. “I sit nice.” “She really just… fits,” Renee murmured, watching the toddler settle in. “Like she’s always been here,” Matt agreed. “She has,” Neil said simply, handing {{user}} her sippy cup. “She’s just part of our world.” The bus engine rumbled to life as {{user}} leaned back, already starting to hum to herself. She blinked up at Andrew. “Daddy, bus goin’?” “Yeah,” Andrew said, voice soft. “We’re going.” “Yay,” she whispered, pacifier slipping between her lips as she curled around her fox. The Foxes took their seats, still stunned, still reeling from the sight of Andrew Minyard casually parenting a toddler like it was second nature. No more words were needed. The game hadn’t even started yet—and already, everything had changed.

The kitchen was buzzing with activity as the Totsuki team worked together, preparing for a special challenge. They had been asked to cater a gala for Totsuki’s sister music academy, where their dishes would need to complement the live performances. “Food and music—this is going to be incredible!” Sōma grinned as he arranged his dish with precision. Megumi was focused, carefully plating an appetizer. “We need to make sure every dish connects with the music. It’s all about the right mood.” Yūki, excited, added, “And we’re cooking for some of the best musicians around! This is our chance to shine.” But for Shun, this night held a different kind of excitement. Among the performers was someone he held dear—his partner. They saw each other regularly, but kept their relationship private, and no one on the team knew. “Shun, you’ve been quiet. Everything okay?” Megumi asked, noticing his distant look. He blinked, pulling himself back into the moment. “Yeah, just thinking about how it’s all going to come together.” The team carried on, but Shun’s thoughts kept drifting to them. No matter how many performances they’d seen together, there was something about watching them on stage that always made his heart race. The door to the kitchen swung open, and the performers started filtering in. Shun’s eyes immediately found them. When they spotted him, their gazes locked for a moment, the familiar warmth between them palpable.

“{{user}} watches as Abby adjusts the toddler on her hip, completely unaware of the absolute disaster she’s about to unleash. ‘So,’ she says, far too casually. ‘Who wants to babysit for two weeks?’ Silence. The Foxes exchange looks. Someone coughs. Nicky, for once, says nothing. ‘{{user}} will do it,’ Andrew says. {{user}} snaps their head up. ‘Excuse me?’ Abby grins. ‘Perfect! He’s all yours.’ Before they can argue, she steps forward, setting the kid down. He immediately latches onto {{user}}'s leg like a koala. ‘{{user}} looks like they’re gonna pass out,’ Matt whispers. Dan shushes him, barely holding in a laugh. The toddler beams up at them. ‘{{user}}!’ they chirp. Andrew, watching from his spot against the wall, takes a slow sip of his drink. ‘Congratulations,’ he says, deadpan. Nicky finally breaks. ‘Oh, this is gonna be amazing.’”

The store should’ve been empty. You’d checked, double-checked, made sure no undead were shuffling around inside before slipping in through a side entrance. Supplies were running low, and you weren’t about to let yourself starve. Then the door creaked. You ducked behind a shelf, gripping your crowbar as footsteps echoed through the space. More than one set. You counted at least five—no, six. Then a voice: “Make it quick. We don’t need another close call.” More followed. “Think there’s anything left?” “Doubt it. Place is cleaned out.” Then silence. Then— “There’s someone here.” You exhaled slowly and stepped into view. Eight people stood in a loose formation near the entrance, all armed, all watching you. Two blondes—one scowling, the other just looking bored. A tall guy gripping a bat like he knew how to use it. A woman with sharp eyes, another with a steady calmness to her. A few others, none of them looking particularly trusting. The first blonde—crossbow in hand—tilted his head. “You alone?” You nodded. “Always.” The tall guy—Matt, maybe—raised an eyebrow. “And that’s working for you?” You glanced at your supplies, then back at him. “Clearly.” That got a reaction. A smirk from the redhead, an unimpressed scoff from one of the blondes. The one with the crossbow kept staring. Kevin spoke up next. “We don’t have time for this.” Aaron sighed. “They seem fine on their own. Let’s go.” Nicky grinned. “But they’re interesting.” Neil cut in, voice even. “You want to keep surviving?” You gave him a look. “Obviously.” Dan nodded toward the door. “Then come with us.” You hesitated. You didn’t need them. You’d been doing just fine. But supplies were getting harder to find. The days were getting lonelier. And they were still standing, which meant they were doing something right. Finally, you exhaled. “Fine.” Andrew turned, already heading for the door. “Keep up.” You rolled your eyes but followed.

Inkigayo’s backstage hallway hummed with nervous energy — stylists darting past, staff whispering last-second cues into headsets, lights flickering overhead like they couldn’t decide if this was heaven or hell. {{user}} stood at the far end of the corridor in full stagewear, mic taped, in-ears ready. Debut was in ten minutes. One solo performance. No group to hide behind. She inhaled. She exhaled. She— Someone cleared their throat behind her. She turned, half expecting her manager. Instead: three girls in matching black-and-metal outfits, sleek, sharp, and watching her like prey. Rumi stepped forward, gaze unreadable. “You’re the soloist they added last minute.” Mira was already circling, phone in one hand, gum snapping. “No debut teasers. No pre-release. Just appeared on the lineup.” Zoey, leaning against the wall with her arms folded, didn’t even bother to hide her suspicion. “That’s not normal.” {{user}} blinked. “…I won a showcase slot. That’s all.” Mira tilted her head. “That’s what the news says.” Rumi studied her closely. “You smell like…” she paused. “Nothing.” “Not holy,” Zoey said slowly. “Not corrupted either.” Mira frowned. “Just—empty.” Before {{user}} could ask what that was supposed to mean— A breeze swept down the hallway, warm and sweet, carrying the faint scent of roses and smoke. The Saja Boys had arrived. Jinu, as always, walked like he was late to his own photoshoot. “You’re blocking the hallway, ladies.” Abby flopped against the wall, his lollipop crunching between sharp teeth. “New girl’s cute. Can I keep her?” Mystery said nothing, but shadows bent slightly behind him as he moved. Romance gave {{user}} a slow once-over and smiled like a sin. “Now this is interesting.” Baby leaned toward her with wide eyes. “Are you real? Or are you made?” Rumi stepped between them. “Back off.” Jinu raised an eyebrow. “She’s not marked. You don’t get to claim her.” “We’re not claiming,” Zoey snapped. “We’re warning.” Romance tilted his head at {{user}}. “Tell me, love. Have you had strange dreams lately? Heard music playing where there shouldn’t be any?” “Seen shadows move before the light does?” Abby added, grinning. {{user}} took a step back. “…What are you talking about?” “Nothing,” Rumi said firmly. “Ignore them.” “Everything,” Romance said at the same time. “You’ll find out,” Baby whispered. “Soon.” The greenroom door down the hall opened. A stagehand called, “{{user}}! You’re up next!” The girls stared. The boys smiled. {{user}} squared her shoulders. “I don’t know what your problem is,” she said, voice steady, “but I’m here to perform. Not to play your games.” She walked past them. Not rushed. Not flinching. And not looking back. Rumi watched her go. “She doesn’t know what she is.” Jinu’s smile deepened. “That’s the best kind.”

    The nest visits

The news landed like a blow. “The Ravens are moving districts,” Wymack said. His tone was clipped, almost dismissive, but the words echoed in Fox Tower like gunfire. Kevin went white. The others were still processing—Nicky’s mouth falling open, Aaron muttering a curse, Neil’s jaw tightening—when Kevin lunged for his phone. “Don’t,” Andrew said from his corner, voice flat but sharp enough to cut. Kevin didn’t stop. His hands shook as he punched in the number, pacing like a man about to collapse under his own heartbeat. Neil stepped forward. “Kevin. Who are you—” But Kevin was already speaking, words spilling out fast and desperate into the phone. “It’s happening sooner than I thought. They’ll never be ready in time. They won’t listen. They won’t see. You need to come tomorrow. If they don’t learn now, they’re finished.” Then he hung up. Just like that. The silence that followed was jagged. Nicky finally broke it with a weak laugh. “Please tell me you just ordered takeout.” Kevin ignored him, shouldering his bag like nothing had happened. His face was pale, his mouth tight, but his voice was steady. “Be here tomorrow.” And then he walked out. ⸻ The Foxes didn’t sleep easy that night. Nicky tried to joke it off—“maybe he called a therapist?”—but the way Kevin had spoken, the edge of panic in his voice, left no doubt. Neil had stared at the ceiling half the night, replaying Kevin’s words, while Andrew sat silent and still beside him, unreadable. Aaron muttered about traitors until even Nicky told him to shut up. By morning, the tension was a living thing in the locker room. And then the door opened. You stepped in. The black jacket marked you before your face did, the Raven crest stitched in stark contrast against the orange walls of Fox Tower. The air snapped tight. Nicky actually gasped. “Oh my god, he really did it.” Aaron swore. “Are you kidding me?” Neil’s fists curled without him meaning them to, the sharp flare of anger making his chest tight. Andrew didn’t move, but his eyes locked on you with the kind of unblinking intensity that made most people back up a step. Kevin followed close behind, as if this had all been his plan from the beginning. He dropped his bag on the bench with a heavy thud. “They’re here to help.” “Help?” Neil spat. “Yes,” Kevin snapped. He turned to the team, his voice cutting like a whip. “The Ravens are in this district now. If you want to survive, you have to understand how they play. You don’t. They do. Watch. Learn. Or keep stumbling through and get destroyed before the season’s half over.” Aaron glared. “So your solution is to drag one of them in here? Right into our court?” Kevin ignored him. He tossed you a racquet without looking, and you caught it clean, like you’d been waiting for it. “First drill,” Kevin barked. “With me.” You followed him onto the court. The Foxes stayed frozen for a beat too long, like their legs didn’t trust what their heads were seeing. And then Kevin moved, and you moved with him. It was seamless—step, cut, pass, return. No hesitation, no wasted motion. Raven training ran through your veins like second nature. Kevin matched you stride for stride, both of you snapping into a rhythm so sharp it almost hurt to watch. The Foxes tried to join in. Neil darted forward too soon, Aaron lagged behind the rotation, Nicky’s pass wobbled off-target. Kevin stopped the drill after the third failed cycle, disgust flashing across his face. “Do you see the difference now?” he demanded, voice low but edged with fury. “This is structure. This is discipline. This is what it takes. You are years behind.” You stood silent beside him, racquet balanced loosely in your hand, letting his words hang in the air. The Foxes bristled, uneasy under the weight of Kevin’s disappointment and your effortless precision. On the sideline, Nicky muttered, “Yeah, or maybe this is the part where the Raven eats us alive.” Andrew didn’t answer. He just kept staring at you, flat and unblinking, like he was waiting for the moment Kevin’s trust in you would prove fatal.

Your apartment was finally quiet. No phone buzzing. No wardrobe crises. No demon idols demanding last-minute haircuts before midnight interviews. Just you, your oversized hoodie, warm lamplight, and a playlist full of songs you only ever sang when no one else could hear. You paced the kitchen with a half-full mug, mouthing the lyrics at first. But by the second verse, you were in it — hands gesturing as you spun toward the fridge, singing under your breath, then louder. The kind of singing that wasn’t perfect but felt perfect. Your voice filled the small space. Honest. Unfiltered. Almost too vulnerable for someone who spent most days wrangling egos sharp enough to slice through press questions. You didn’t hear the elevator ding in the hallway outside. Didn’t hear the quiet click of the spare key turning. ⸻ “Why do we never knock?” Baby asked as he trailed in behind Jinu. “Because it’s our manager,” Abby said, already taking off his sunglasses despite the fact it was after 9 p.m. Mystery rolled his eyes. “I told you we should’ve texted.” “She wouldn’t have let us in,” Romance said, carrying two bags of takeout. “This is a surprise attack. You only get one a month.” “Not how surprise attacks work,” Mystery muttered, but he followed them in anyway. Jinu was already walking ahead of them, expression unreadable, eyes scanning the familiar hallway. He could hear something now. A voice. Soft. Melodic. Barely rising over the sound of the playlist—but definitely live. “Is that—?” Baby’s eyes went wide. “Shh!” Abby hissed. The boys crept closer, silent in designer sneakers and demon grace. The singing grew clearer. A little off-pitch in the sweetest way. Full of heart. Yours. You were just on the other side of the wall. “I swear to god,” Romance whispered, half in awe, “that’s her.” Jinu stopped right outside the kitchen entrance. The light from inside pooled out into the hall, golden and warm. He didn’t move. He just listened. And behind him, so did the others — frozen in a rare moment of complete silence.

The hallway backstage reeked of hair spray, foundation, and raw adrenaline. Somewhere, a makeup artist was shouting for someone’s eyeliner. Somewhere else, Huntr/x was prepping for their final wardrobe check—Rumi’s heels echoing like gunshots as she paced past your door. You were sitting in front of the mirror, hands clenched around a mic you weren’t sure you deserved to hold yet. Today was your debut stage. Solo. No backup dancers. No group behind you. Just you—and the weight of every eye in Korea ready to see if you’d crash or soar. The knock at your dressing room door was sharp. Familiar. Dangerous. You turned. “It’s open.” The door clicked and in stepped someone who absolutely, definitely shouldn’t be here. Black hair. Black boots. Black aura. Jinu. Leader of the Saja Boys. Idol by trade. Demon by blood. And somehow, yours. He didn’t say anything at first. Just leaned against the closed door like he owned the room—and technically, he probably could if he wanted to. “You’re not supposed to be here,” you said, standing quickly. “Security’s—” “Busy watching Huntr/x rehearse.” His voice was calm, confident, as always. “Besides, I didn’t come to cause trouble.” You eyed him suspiciously. “Then why?” He shrugged, walking over like there weren’t centuries of war written into his footsteps. “Because I know what debut day feels like. It’s loud and lonely at the same time.” You blinked. That wasn’t what you expected. Not from him. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a single object: a sleek black in-ear monitor. Custom-molded. Your initials in silver. You frowned. “Where did you—?” “Let’s just say Baby owes me a favor. And I might’ve stolen the specs from your company’s audio engineer last week.” Your jaw dropped. “You hacked my tech to give me a gift?” He smiled slowly. “I like knowing you’ll hear me when I’m not there.” Silence stretched. Your heart thudded—louder than the bass shaking the building. Jinu wasn’t the type to say sweet things. Not unless there was more behind it. You narrowed your eyes. “What are you playing at, Jinu?” He stepped close, almost close enough for his aura to tangle with yours. “I’m playing for keeps.” Before you could answer, the PA crackled: “Debut artist, five minutes to stage. Five minutes.” You exhaled sharply, nerves tightening again. This was it. But Jinu reached out and gently, gently, adjusted your mic pack behind your ear. His fingertips lingered just a moment too long. Then, quietly: “When you walk on that stage, remember… the demons are watching too.” You smirked. “I thought they were all busy pretending to be idols.” He grinned. “Exactly.” And just like that—he was gone. No smoke. No teleport. Just a soft click of the dressing room door as it shut, leaving you alone with your reflection, your heartbeat… …and the black in-ear monitor still warm in your hand.
