    James Scott, the 1st Duke of Monmouth. He was Charles II’s illegitimate son. After his uncle, James II, was crowned, he openly rebelled. He was James II’s opp, as the kids would say. 🧐 James Scott led the Monmouth Rebellion (or the Pitchfork Rebellion) in an attempt to dethrone James II, believing he had a rightful claim to the throne. He was a Protestant, and extremely unhappy with James II’s Catholic faith. Monmouth lost, and was charged with high treason and beheaded.
