Prince Rupert was a German-English officer most famous for his contribution to the English Civil War. He fought for King Charles I—he was the King’s nephew—as a Royalist, and stunned many with his military prowess and effective use of European tactics. He was an energetic and charismatic calvary general. However, upon surrendering the city of Bristol to Parliamentarians, King Charles dismissed him from service, and he was later exiled.
