Perhaps that was his biggest mistake, not realising that not only was there a hidden mechanism set by other students to try and stop this mindless slaughter, but letting the mastermind, whoever that student was, that he was, in fact, aware of their plan. Indeed, Rantaro's title wouldn't be of use.
