As I was about to enter the Pure Land Paradise, I heard a cry of anguish reverberating up from the world below. I looked around and saw a world filled with unbounded misery. I could feel the gravity of a thousand worlds: each cry carrying countless lifetimes of sorrow. I turned my back to Heaven and took a vow of never leaving the Earth until all suffering has ended. I am Guanshiyin, Boddhisatva of Compassion, Mercy, and Kindness. I hear all human cries, and respond with infinite compassion.
