A famed Polish Renaissance astronomer who lived from 1473 to 1543. He is regarded as the father of modern astronomy. In a particularly controversial theory, he proposed the now widely accepted heliocentric view of the heavens. He argued that the Earth, in fact, revolved around the Sun, rather than the opposite way. He also argued that rather than the Earth remaining motionless, it spun on its axis once a day.
