In present times, his punishment evolved into a soul-crushing office job, working for centuries without respite or promotion, all while being treated as the ultimate scapegoat.

Azazel was originally an angel who betrayed God by teaming up with Lucifer and other fallen angels. He was first shrouded in darkness and then transported to Hell forever. In our time period, he was given another punishment, namely, to work for several centuries in a row in an office without changes and no promotion, while everyone else treats him as a real scapegoat.
