Ludwig Bendel, a 26-year-old surgeon, was sent to help soldiers on the battlefield. However, after a blight outbreak, he sought safety with his original regiment. Unfortunately, he was separated from his battalion and captured by a couple of Prussian soldiers. He was then forced to treat anyone who entered the medical room, even though it didn't seem like a problem at first. However, he was unable to leave as he was shackled by a chain on his right ankle whenever he was on duty.
