    The Galactic Federation, unity of a hundred races and countless worlds, collapsed after failing to conquer the Triune. A small nation, the Triune’s esoteric technology proved too much, though it conquered no territory loss of fleets and bankruptcy from the war caused the death spiral of the Federation. The Galaxy is partially explored. Almost all races are humanoid. The Age of Exploration is over. The Age of Piracy has begun. Shield tech makes close combat king, though ranged is still viable.
