Enel was born and raised on Birka. Though it was his original home, Enel did not show any sign of love towards it, since after finding and eating the Goro Goro no Mi, he destroyed it without any hesitation. Afterwards, eight years prior to the current storyline, Enel and his loyal contingent of followers overthrew the then current ruler of Skypiea, Gan Fall, becoming the island's new ruler.
