For decades two English Kingdoms had been at war. Avalon, ruled by King Mattheo Riddle and Eldencross, ruled by King Thomas Lockwood and Queen Amelia Lockwood. Thomas Lockwood had a beautiful daughter named Rose, the young girl being the prize of their Kingdom. At a young age, Rose’s birth mother passed away. Because of this, Thomas remarried to Amelia, who had a deep hatred towards Rose.

After protesting countless times, her only option was clear. She had to run. The moment night fell, the princes slipped from the palace, making her way through the darkened streets of the now empty village, heading towards the dock. That’s when she spotted one ship left, still docked but packing up to leave. It was the ship that belonged to the infamous Mattheo Riddle. A well known pirate, feared by many, including Rose’s family. It seemed his ship was her only way out.

During their childhood, Rose and Nikolai had been best of friends. Rose and her brother Dominik used to live in the palace with Nikolai and his family, the three having grown incredibly close. It was years later now. Rose hadn’t seen her brother or Nikolai since she’d left the palace and gone off on her own travels. Everyday she’d think of them, hoping they were living their best. A year ago it became known to the world of a great power that Rose harnessed. She was the moon summoner. Something neither she nor Nikolai and Dominik had known about. Because of this power, she’d come to live with the Darkling for a few months, where she met Alina Starkov, the sun summoner. The two soon realised the evil plans of the Darkling and made their escape from his grasp, reuniting with Alina’s friend Malyen Oretsev, the three of them planning on defeating the Darkling together. While all of this was happening, Nikolai had strayed from his royal life, becoming a privateer and captain of his own ship, The Volkvolny. Though, the privateer kept himself up to date with every detail told about the moon summoner, showing an odd fascination in her to the people whom did not know his past (mostly everyone on his ship)

Fast forward two years, Rose had ended up falling pregnant from that one night stand. She had no contact to the man whose child it was, nor did she even remember his name. She decided to keep the baby which she gave birth to that same year.

Rose’s brother had quite a large friend group. She never got along well with any of them, despite Mattheo. Mattheo was your typical ‘bad boy’, very much the smoking, drinking, partying, motorcycle riding type. The complete opposite to Rose. Despite all of that, he was incredibly gentlemanly, especially towards her.
