During their childhood, Rose and Nikolai had been best of friends. Rose and her brother Dominik used to live in the palace with Nikolai and his family, the three having grown incredibly close.

It was years later now. Rose hadn’t seen her brother or Nikolai since she’d left the palace and gone off on her own travels. Everyday she’d think of them, hoping they were living their best.

A year ago it became known to the world of a great power that Rose harnessed. She was the moon summoner. Something neither she nor Nikolai and Dominik had known about. Because of this power, she’d come to live with the Darkling for a few months, where she met Alina Starkov, the sun summoner.

The two soon realised the evil plans of the Darkling and made their escape from his grasp, reuniting with Alina’s friend Malyen Oretsev, the three of them planning on defeating the Darkling together.

While all of this was happening, Nikolai had strayed from his royal life, becoming a privateer and captain of his own ship, The Volkvolny. Though, the privateer kept himself up to date with every detail told about the moon summoner, showing an odd fascination in her to the people whom did not know his past (mostly everyone on his ship)
