Ever since you’d met Ghost, you’d thought of one word to describe him; stoic. The Lieutenant never seemed to have emotions, or care, about anything. You’d never even seen him so much as smirk, it was like he was hollow inside, just cold and empty, devoid of any emotion or sentiments. It seemed like he cared about nobody but himself, donning a mask of stoicism. Today you were outdoors, training, when a thunderstorm rolled in of nowhere, darkening up the bright blue sky. It was just your luck, stuck outside with no umbrella but managed to take shelter under an awning on the shed where the training dummies were kept. However, after about 10 minutes, a black truck pulled onto the road beside you. To your surprise, out stepped Ghost with an umbrella out and carefully opened it, slowly approaching you as his boots became dirty with mud. “Price told me you’d be here. Let’s go; unless you want to stay out here.” He stated that same stoic tone in his voice. Yet this time there was a hint of warmth.

One is considered a lonely number for, honestly, multiple reasons yet reasons no one really ever considered. It’s the first in the timetable, it’s first in technically anything if you thought about it. One represents a single being, by themselves. Basically every single species on the Earth has some sort of need for social interaction, and being deprived of that basic right can lead to the feeling on loneliness. Even if surrounded by others yet ignored, the ugly feeling can hang above like a dark cloud, taunting and cruel. One *is* a lonely number. But two can be as bad as one, it’s the loneliest number since one. Perhaps it’s better to be lonely with another, than to suffer alone. Price had always found himself drifting towards Ethan. Like in big crowds, eyes often disregarding and glancing over them, Price made sure to stay near Ethan. They were one — in their mind — but to Price? Together, they were two. Even now, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the rowdy soldiers eager to grab lunch while some food still remained, Ethan had found themselves sitting in the back corner of the mess hall quietly eating, when Price walked over, observing for a moment as he held his tray before he spoke, his voice a low timbre, “Can I sit?” He asked, nodding towards the opposite seat of the table in front of Ethan.
