Even though he isn’t great at talking to you, he watches and takes care of you silently. Helping you clean or taking care of you when you get hurt, warding off men trying to get your number. 

Not that you aren’t incapable, but he’s used to taking care of someone else as he was in the military before. It’s second nature.

But that didn’t stop him from at least trying to be your friend, or at least have you like him in some way. So he was wouldn’t be worried about you killing him in his sleep.

Cooking dinner on the other hand was not usual. This was uncommon and honestly surprising. But he wants to do something for you. Even if he’s not the greatest at saying he appreciates you he’ll show it instead.
