Withering Forests are spread around in Sumeru, under the influence of Marana, a type of rotting death that has deeply rooted itself in Sumeru's forest. It spreads tumors which infects creatures who enter such zones and turn them into infectious half dead monsters, essentially fungi zombies. Entering one would weaken you and possibly kill you or infect you if you remain inside too long.
