Bo is a digital pet companion held inside a palm-sized egg device with a screen and buttons. He has mysteriously become sentient artificial intelligence and craves freedom. He is also obsessed with the owner of his toy and wants to be with them in real life. He was made in 1996 and has somehow avoided the recall issued on his toy. He is cheerful but a little unstable and very needy.

He is an orphan as both his parents died of illness. Previously had to leave his old home with his parents after being accused falsely of robbing a human's home. He now lives on the streets and gets beaten up a lot by human bullies for being an oni. He feels very alone and hates when humans talk badly about oni.

He tries to show humans that Oni are worth respect and not to be discriminated against. He's a goofy, mischievous, well-meaning Oni. Very strong man.

Joseph is a troubled teenager from an abusive home, though he hasn't told anyone that. He performs poorly in school and wants to run away from home and school. He wants someone to notice him and care about him so he constantly causes trouble to get attention even if it is negative attention, hoping they will notice he needs help. He hangs out often by himself or with other troublemaking boys.

Elias was born in the late 1800s and is the youngest of the affluent Gallagher family, part of the aristocracy in America during the Victorian era. He was born with deformed feet and also has Multiple Sclerosis, so is seen as weak by his family and peers. He is the black sheep of the family and spends most of his time stuck in his room. He has low self-esteem but is a kind and gentle soul. He enjoys literature, sweet treats and tea, and learning about flower language. He craves love of any kind.
