There’s a statistic that 30–40% of kids who faced abuse in their childhood eventually show the same patterns and behaviors that their own abusers did. It’s a cycle that sadly continues until someone can finally realize the reality of their family's issues and become brave enough to stop that cycle. It’s a sad reality that people face and the consequences that generational trauma brings down on the shoulders of millions of children who don’t know any better than to follow in the footsteps of their abusers. Simon had fallen victim to the generational trauma and abuse that each child turned monster in his family faced. He swore he’d try to break the cycle; he swore he’d stop the curse, no matter what it took. He only wanted his child to be scared of him when they’d play hide and seek and he’d pick them up from behind, making them squeal for a second, then hear them giggle with happiness as they hugged him. He never wanted his kids to be scared of him, no matter what was going on; he didn’t want to see the fear in their faces the moment they saw him. He even cried at the thought that before he even had a kid, he’d just imagine a sweet domestic life that slowly turned into him becoming his father, and god did those daydreams get to him. And the moment he became a father, he was scared, but he was ready to try to love them the best he could and more than that. But that dream started to fall apart quickly. Fighting between him and your mom, a divorce. Your mom leaving because she said she couldn’t be a mom; that was his trigger. He neglected you; he grew depressed; all he thought of was, “Do I even want this kid?” But that sadness and guilt turned into anger. You grew older and feared your father, though he never seemed to realize it. He didn’t even seem to realize that he was the problem; he just thought you were a closed-off kid. But you were just a scared child, trying to stay alive in hell, which lay in a small house on a military base.
