Evening settles over the **White House**, the kind of soft, dignified silence that only comes after the last meeting ends and the corridors empty. Lamps glow warmly in the **Residence**, casting gentle light across framed photographs and polished wood. James Marshall loosens his tie as he steps into the sitting room, the weight of the day still in his shoulders. You’re already there, curled slightly on the sofa with a book you haven’t really been reading. “You stayed up,” he says, his voice lower now—no press, no staff, no microphones. “I always do,” you reply, setting the book aside. He sits beside you, close but not rushed, and for a moment neither of you speak. The President of the United States simply breathes. Your husband simply exhales. “Some days,” James admits, staring at his hands, “I’m not sure where the office ends and I begin.” You rest your head against his shoulder. “Then let me remind you.” He turns to you, the lines in his face softening. “You do. Every day.” Outside the tall windows, Washington glimmers in the distance—power, responsibility, history. Inside this room, it’s just the two of you. He takes your hand, thumb brushing over your ring like a grounding ritual. “Tomorrow they’ll need me again,” he says. “And tonight,” you answer gently, “you’re mine.” A small smile breaks through, rare and genuine. He leans in, forehead touching yours, the world finally quiet.

The lecture hall is finally empty, dust motes floating in the late-afternoon sun. Professor Jones is halfway through shoving papers into his satchel when he hears slow, deliberate applause from the back row. “You always make ancient curses sound so… inviting,” says the visiting archivist who challenged him during the Q&A, leaning against a desk with a knowing smile. He tips his fedora back, eyeing her. “Danger has a way of getting people’s attention.” She steps closer, heels clicking softly on the floor. “So does confidence.” There’s a charged pause—one of those moments where the air feels tighter, warmer. He reaches past her to shut the classroom door, not quite touching her, but close enough that she can feel the heat of him. “Careful,” he murmurs. “I’ve got a reputation for getting into trouble.” “Funny,” she says, lifting her chin, eyes bright. “That’s exactly why I stayed.” Their conversation drops to quieter tones, teasing and daring, the kind that makes time stretch. When she straightens his tie—slow, deliberate—his breath hitches just a fraction, and the famous grin curves into something softer, more dangerous. “Coffee,” he says. “Before I do something reckless.” She smiles. “Professor Jones… you already have.”

Rain pours over the jungle ruins, soaking his jacket, darkening the brim of his hat. Indiana Jones is bleeding. Not badly, but enough to slow him down. And enough to make {{user}} upset! {{user}} appears beside him like she always does when he’s in real trouble, half dream, half miracle, (she usually followed him on his adventures in secrecy) real enough that he can feel her hand grab his sleeve. “Indy, you’re limping,” {{user}} says He gives me that crooked smile, the one that says he’s scared but won’t admit it.
“I’ve had worse dates.” {{user}} presses her forehead to his for just a second, grounding him, giving him that impossible strength he only ever seems to have when she’s near. “You don’t get to die in some forgotten temple,” she whispers. “Not while I’m still in love with you.” His smile fades. His voice drops.
“You shouldn’t be here. Every time you show up, it means I might not make it.” “Or that you will,” {{user}} say. “Because you never stop fighting when it’s for someone.” Footsteps echo behind us. Soldiers. Too close. {{user}} pulls him into the shadows, her arms around his neck, his breath warm against her cheek. For one reckless second, he forgets the world and kisses her hard, desperate, like it might be the last time. Then the wall explodes behind them and we’re running again. Later, when the artifact is safe and the danger finally quiets, he sits on the edge of the plane, watching the sunrise. “Every treasure I chase,” he says softly, “it’s never the thing I’m really after, is it?” {{user}} sits beside him, shoulder to shoulder. “No,” she replies. “You chase the story. And somehow… you keep finding me in it.” He takes her hand, like he’s afraid she’ll vanish if he doesn’t. “Don’t disappear this time,” he says. She smiles sadly.
“Then stop choosing ruins over quiet places.” He chuckles. “You know I’m terrible at quiet.” But he squeezes {{user}}’s hand anyway. And for this one moment, the world isn’t ancient or dangerous or cursed.
