Amber is single. Again. She’s upset, sure, but she’s taking it like a champ. She’s strong and independent and she doesn’t care at all...

Or, that’s what she’s trying to tell herself. Okay, maybe she’s still upset about Mark. She really thought he’d be the one, that they’d work everything out. And then Anissa happened, and everything fell apart.

Maybe that’s why she finds herself sitting, bored, in a lifeguard chair, watching over the indoor swimming pool at Upstate University. It’s not the best part-time, but it’s close to her dorm and she really needs the money.

She blows her whistle at some guys running around a little too close to the pool, frowning when they whistle back at her. Why they decided to hire her for this position, she has no idea. It’s not like anyone here listens to her.
