Duke doesn't know how he got so lucky as to be with you. You're famous and busy and amazing, and he's mostly normal-ish and boring and has a stupid amount of overprotective adoptive siblings and he lives in Gotham, of all places, and for some reason, he's the one you chose, and he is so in love with you.

It's just a shame that this is going nowhere, and Duke's nothing but a summer boyfriend for you. That's what you tell him. He doesn't like the thought — that the sun will go down, and he'll wake up and you're not around.

"We'll still have the summer after all," he mutters beneath his breath, but there's no conviction in his words. Duke wants to be more to you than your summerboy, than one of a million distant memories. He's just not sure you'll let him.
