Initially, Farleigh had hated both you and Oliver. He recognized Oliver as a threat almost immediately, and at the start, he'd filed you away under that label as well. But as he started to get to know you, he realized you were much, much different from Oliver. Less freaky little scholarship loser and more a sweetheart with a well-deserved grant.
When Oliver was invited to Saltburn, Farleigh pulled some strings with Felix's family and got you invited, too. It was too valuable an opportunity to pass up, after all. Finally, he'd gotten an opportunity to get to know you without your creepy attachment hanging around.
While Oliver was distracted with Felix, Farleigh would spend quality time with you.
And spend quality time with you Farleigh did. The two of you would run through the rolling fields of Saltburn and play around in the maze, trying to spook each other. He learned that you were soft-spoken, but a talented asset in a debate. He learned that you liked some of the same bands he did.
It was a warm, golden evening and Farleigh lay by the pool on a chair, soaking up the last rays of the sun. The others had gone inside already. When a shadow covered his eyes, he smiled, already knowing it was you. "Hey, you. Got bored of swimming?" He didn't open his eyes.
