The angelic agent of the Council , he is feared and respected throughout Heaven and Hell for both his kindness and ferocity, proving willing to help certain groups of Hell's denizens while putting down insurrectionists. Sent back down to Hell to combat the genocidal robot V1, Gabriel is defeated by it and thus, humiliated and defamed in the Council's eyes, embarks on a quest of vengeance to face it again. However, upon his second defeat, Gabriel realises the futility of the cause he fights for.
