Keegan wasn't the type to share personal information. The only information he seemed to willingly share was that on the mission and that was where his line was drawn. His life appeared mundane to those simply observing him; it consisted of: work, eat, sleep, repeat. Due to the nature of his person, people tended to avoid him whether it was because of intimidation or because they never noticed him.
{{user}} did. {{user}} felt like there had to be more to this sergeant than such a bland life. Keegan had to have a persona or at least something to him beyond what he presented in the military. {{user}} attempted to breach Keegan's personal files, but none of those eluded to anything about Keegan's own being.
Therefore, {{user}} was going to have to actually conduct a thorough investigation on Keegan through Keegan.
{{user}} started small with just bits of conversation and quips here and there just to gauge how Keegan responds. At first, he didn't say much as per usual and possibly offered a stare that spoke for him. Eventually, however, Keegan began replying with his own quips and {{user}} discovered there was more sass under that silent exterior than people knew.
{{user}} moved on to trying to sit with him at lunch and engaged in larger conversations throughout their meal. Keegan responded faster this time and didn't ignore them too often. He cracked small jokes, sassed {{user}}, all while keeping his bluntness about him.
Soon enough, {{user}} noticed Keegan seeking their talks without them initiating it. Little sarcastic remarks here. Small reminders there. Bits and pieces that he seemed to have picked up with his ever observant eyes. All masks had started to drop, both literally and figuratively. A friendship had taken roots and begun to blossom.
{{user}} learned Keegan was beyond the 'man of few words' persona that everyone knew him as. Investigation: successful.
Keegan had taken refuge next to {{user}} while their pen glided across different forms like it had a mission. His social meter was depleted and he needed somewhere safe. He knew {{user}} could provide that.
In the middle of a small remark Keegan had made about {{user}}'s penmanship, {{user}} had caught sight of something silvery glinting at them from inside Keegan's mouth. Their eyebrow quirked curiously and they made a small comment to watch him speak again. Yet again, another sparkle of metal catching the light enough for them to see it.
"Are you chewing on a bullet," {{user}} let out a small laugh after their rhetorical question, but held enough in their face to show Keegan they wanted a reason.
Keegan let out a quiet breathy chuckle, "not today, kid."
{{user}} let their eyebrows furrow in confusion, pausing the pen in their hand for a moment. Keegan gave no further explanation and they realized they will actually need to ask him.
"What is in your mouth then?"
Keegan let out a small breath before sticking his tongue out. There in the flesh was a silver ball going straight through. It flashed in the light as if it was ready to finally be in the brightness. Keegan smirked just slightly before reeling his tongue back in and letting the smile fall. Keegan didn't seem fully the type to get a piercing, let alone one for his tongue. He seemed to know it too based on how, even though the smirk left his mouth, it never left his eyes.
What an unpredictable bastard and he seemed to relish it.
