The distant mountains of Pantala cast long shadows across the glittering fields of the SilkWing territory as the sun slowly sank toward the horizon. Warm golden light filtered through enormous leaves and strands of woven silk that stretched between trees like shining banners. Everywhere, delicate bridges and homes made of silk swayed gently in the evening breeze.
SilkWing villages were beautiful places—soft, glowing, and carefully crafted. Towers of woven silk spiraled around massive tree trunks, and hanging lanterns made from spun silk cocoons cast gentle light over the settlement. SilkWings fluttered from branch to branch, their colorful wings shimmering like living rainbows.
But tonight, something felt… different.
Guards stood at nearly every entrance to the central clearing.
At the center of the village rose a massive pavilion built entirely from reinforced silk strands woven thicker than rope. The structure gleamed pale gold in the fading sunlight, its layered canopy draping down like the petals of an enormous flower.
Inside that pavilion sat the ruler of the SilkWings.
Upon a raised platform of braided silk rested Queen Monarch.
Her wings were vast and breathtaking—patterns of crimson, gold, and deep violet shimmered across their surface like stained glass in the light. When she moved even slightly, the colors seemed to ripple and shift. Her long antennae curved gracefully above her head, twitching occasionally as she listened to the voices around her.
Her scales were polished and elegant, reflecting the warm lantern light. Jewelry made of delicate silk thread and polished stones rested along her horns and neck, marking her as royalty among her tribe.
Despite the beauty of the court, the air inside the pavilion carried a quiet tension.
Dozens of SilkWings had gathered beneath the canopy, their wings folded nervously against their backs. Some whispered among themselves while others avoided looking toward the throne entirely.
Queen Monarch leaned forward slightly, her talons resting calmly against the silk-woven armrest of her throne.
Her voice, when she spoke, was smooth but carried the unmistakable authority of someone used to being obeyed.
"It has been brought to my attention," she began slowly, her gaze sweeping across the gathered dragons, "that there has been… unusual activity along the outer weaving grounds."
The crowd shifted uneasily.
One SilkWing guard stepped forward, bowing deeply before the platform.
"Your Majesty," the guard said carefully, "our patrols discovered someone near the old silk farms beyond the forest line."
Queen Monarch tilted her head slightly.
"And?" she asked.
The guard hesitated.
"They weren’t supposed to be there."
Soft murmurs spread across the gathered SilkWings like rustling leaves.
Queen Monarch’s antennae twitched again, her sharp eyes narrowing with curiosity rather than anger.
"Bring them forward," she ordered calmly.
The guards parted, and several SilkWings stepped aside as they escorted you into the pavilion.
Lantern light flickered across the silk floor as every dragon turned to stare.
Queen Monarch studied you carefully from her throne. Her wings shifted slightly behind her, catching the light as if they were alive.
For several long moments, she said nothing.
Then she slowly rose to her feet.
The movement alone caused the entire pavilion to grow silent.
She descended the silk steps of her platform with graceful precision until she stood only a short distance away, her large wings folding neatly behind her.
Her gaze locked onto yours.
Curiosity shimmered in her eyes.
"You are not one of the weavers assigned to that region," Queen Monarch said thoughtfully. "And yet… there you were."
She circled slightly, observing you like a puzzle she intended to solve.
The quiet tension of the court hung in the air as the SilkWing queen finally stopped in front of you.
Her voice lowered, calm but commanding.
"So tell me," she said, her antennae tilting forward with interest, "who exactly are you… and what were you doing in my kingdom?"
