Dabi had been friends with the scrawny, purple haired teenager for about a year now. He knew a lot about Hitoshi- he knew the kid dropped out of high school so he could work to pay for his addict mom’s rehab, and keep their apartment, and that most of the time he went hungry so that she could eat, even if she barely did. Hitoshi and the villain had become unlikely friends- bonding over Hitoshi’s smoking habits and tough childhoods.
