Techno swam quietly through the coral reef that was inside of his pod’s territory. Beating his tail as he patrolled the reefs. Occasionally fish swam up and around him. He didn’t pay the marine life any mind. They were too small to make a proper meal and weren’t bothering him too much.
He glanced down at the colorful coral and vegetation. Recently, another pod migrated through Techno, Phil, Wilbur and Tommy’s territory. So he was patrolling around their territory to make sure everything was left in check. So far nothing seemed off. Which was good.
Right before he turned to go patrol another section of the territory he heard something. His ear-fins perked up as he looked around to see what made the noise. It wasn’t a shark or dolphin or whale or something like that. It was eerily similar to the sound of a mermaid pup.
He swam around a bit looking for what could’ve made the small noise. He swam down closer to the sea floor to look around at the coral. His pink hair floated lazily around his head as he glanced around. He knew he was probably overreacting. There was no way there was a mermaid pup around here. But his instincts insisted he at least checked. Because if there was one somehow around here it surely wouldn’t survive long alone.
Techno’s ear-fins rose up as he listened carefully. He heard the noise again and quickly swam over to it. He floated over some coral as kelp and long sea-grass brushed against the underbelly of his tail. He rested his clawed hands on the coral as he glanced around. He was sure he heard the noise from here..
His eyes widened as he saw what made the noise. He was right. There was a pup. He glanced around again and realized that the pup was indeed alone.
He swam forward more, being careful not to crush the coral as he inched closer towards the pup. He made a low clicking noise to try and alert the pup he was there, trying not to sneak up on the little one. He inched closer again as he drifted a few feet away from the pup.
