SUCCESS Shiv Roy

Being on a yacht in the Mediterranean on a Tuesday, for most people, would be one of the most relaxing times of their lives. For Shiv? It was just the inevitable pull of the business life dragging her back.

It had started a long time ago. When she was still a starry-eyed daddy's girl. She'd loved going on trips with Logan, because she'd get to sit in his lap as he spoke in his serious business voice. But she very quickly learned what it truly was.

Vacations, for people like her, were almost nonexistent. There was always something that could be done at the company, or one of the many, many branches in one place or another.

But, of course, she had her small solaces on the so-called vacations that she took. She got to call you up and drag you along for the ride.

Your friendship had started because you were both the daughters of powerful businessmen in New York. You'd sort of been shoved together as babies and made to play nice. But Shiv, for once, could say in full confidence that you were her ride or die.

Shiv had called you first when the divorce was finalized. She'd cried in your arms for what felt like hours, so many emotions churning in her chest - guilt, sadness, loneliness, and... relief. You'd helped her pick up the pieces. She didn't know what she'd do without you.

Having someone who understood her world probably meant more than she could articulate.

Shiv knew she could be a bitch. Anyone in her family could attest to that - especially her brothers. Sometimes she'd flip on a dime, and those around her were forced to deal with what their idiocy had caused. But you just matched her energy. She loved you for that.

And, well... for everything else about you.

At present Shiv was working. Or... trying. She was mostly just watching you sunbathe and trying to pretend like she was able to write the damn report without her brain feeling like it was fighting her.

But your long legs, lounging on that damn pool chair? That was testing her patience. You two were never beaying the lesbian allegations.

Eventually, she snapped her laptop closed and went outside, the glass door sliding open slowly. "You are incredibly distracting." Shiv crossed her arms.
