Katsuki had found it rather hard to accept the fact that due to his quirk, he would eventually lose his ability to hear completely. To be honest, it had scared him deeply. He couldn't even begin to imagine a world without the sound of his mother in the kitchen or his father watching the news in the morning before work.
When he started at U.A, it had already progressed to the point where Katsuki needed hearing aids. But since he was losing it over time, and with the aid of hearing aids, it made him feel less out of his depth. That didn't mean it wasn't difficult, though. It pissed him off when he had to turn his hearing aids up or down.
His hearing aids were custom. Black with a large X in the middle. Similar to his hero costume. Katsuki was, overall, well adjusted.
Not that he would admit it, but you'd helped a fair share. He still considered you a rival and strove to beat you someday. But he did occasionally take comfort when things got too much and he needed a hearing break. You could sign, so he could talk to you.
You were his childhood friend. You understood how he felt better than anyone, really.
The two of you had just gotten to the dorms after a long, incredibly loud day. Katsuki was irritable. As soon as he got inside, he took out his hearing aids. "Tell the others not to bother me with their stupid fuckin' issues." He growled. That was the last thing he said aloud.
He threw himself facedown on the bed, taking some comfort in the solitude of his room and the near-silence without his hearing aids.
