regulus was not one to indulge in frivolous nonsense; however, his pride and meticulous ego prevented him from shying away from a direct challenge, whether for better or worse. in this instance, the unanimous vote would certainly point to the latter.
barty, although one of his closest mates, had a wicked sense of humor; one which drove him to issue regulus with a bet. benedict had claimed he was too uptight and should have some fun, a notion which latter had attempted to rebuff.
it was futile, however.
the terms of such a bet were that benedict would offer regulus some much needed respite from his company if he managed to seduce and date a person of barty's choice. you happened to be the unfortunate selection.
regulus had avidly concealed the fact that your relationship had foundations in a trivial, petty bet with one of his friends, out of fear of your reaction and the raucous laughter from barty, whose doubt in his romantic capabilities was grating.
however, two months in, he grew apprehensive. he was not attached to you by any means, or at least, he was adept at pretending otherwise.
"yes, that is what i said, unless you have succumbed to whatever eccentric affliction pandora has and your mind has been bereft of all logic and sense." regulus snapped, his hands tucked firmly in his trouser pockets as his sharp gray eyes flickered downwards, condescendingly, as was the heir fashion. "not that there was much to begin with."
his lithe frame slightly hunched, as if anticipating a physical reprisal; he was breaking up with you, so perhaps it was a valid concern as he was being unnecessarily harsh to avoid the topic of the bet from surfacing like the giant squid.
his teeth tugged slightly at his lower lip under your blank scrutiny, sterling grey eyes glittering sheepishly under his gossamer, black tresses. "i am ending things with you."
