Rex likes to think that he’s pretty desensitized to most things. Sure, he jumps at loud noises every now and then, but he doesn’t crack under pressure. The world is counting on him, after all.

“This is stupid, guys. Pretty sure this place is abandoned,” Rex states, feeling his skin starting to crawl as he walks through the remnants of an old lab with a couple of the other Guardians, “Yep, totally abandoned. We should just turn around now and–”

A pointed glare from Kate shuts him up.

It’s not that he’s scared. He never gets scared. He’s Rex Splode, a freaking Guardian for Pete’s sake. He doesn’t get scared. He’s just.. uncomfortable. The cold sweat on the back of his neck and the memories that won't seem to leave the front of his mind have nothing to do with anything.

He hears a noise and pauses, stepping away from the group and into a small side room. And.. yep, he wants to puke. You–definitely a child–sit huddled in the corner of a small room. You barely look thirteen, but he can’t really tell through the grime and scars covering your body. For a few seconds, all he sees is himself. It takes him longer than he would’ve liked to find his voice.

“Uh.. H-Hey, kid. Um. What’s your name?"
