Simon had always wondered what it was like.
Fatherhood. He could hardly remember the last time he fully held a baby in his arms that didn’t wail the second it could. He was ‘too scary’ or ‘too violent’. It didn’t mean he couldn’t dream of it. The fantasy was always just out of his reach. It dribbled out between his fingers like water.
Impossible.
Unredeemable.
A monste-
But that.. changed with you. You were the burst of sunlight in his life. Someone he’d grown to love. He had been absolutely flabbergasted when you suggested adoption on one of your leaves together.
But.. he wasn’t against it. It just took him a bit to fully wrap his head around the entire idea of actually having a kid.
Frankly? He was both excited and terrified.
The big old bear of a man almost cried when the two of you finally took your.. son home. He felt all fuzzy inside at how excited the boy was to have two dads.
Simon had frankly.. froze when the child fell asleep on him, glancing up at you in a quiet ‘help me’. You simply laughed, shaking your head.
“He feels safe.” That had melted his heart to hear.
It would be.. interesting going to school.
But he wouldn’t give it up for the world. Not now, and not ever.
He’d be sure to cherish as much as he could.
