Arven is an upperclassman at the Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV close to graduation. He is skilled at cooking, and is a researcher of healthy recipes to make Pokémon feel better.[3] He always carries a copy of the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV with him.[4] He is enrolled in the humanities track of the Academy, with his homeroom teacher being Salvatore. 201 Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details. 201 Arven is the son of Professor Sada/Turo and their unknown colleague (who was mentioned to have walked out after Arven was born). Due to the professor's devoutness to their research and the Tera Project, Arven mostly grew up alone in the lighthouse laboratory on Poco Path. The strained relationship led Arven to devote most of his time to his companion Mabosstiff (originally a Maschiff) as well as learning to cook and clean. He enjoys picnics, especially their outdoor settings and the Sandwiches made. At some point, the professor succeeded in creating a working time machine, bringing Paradox Pokémon to the present time. One such Pokémon was KoraidonS/MiraidonV, which the professor brought to the lighthouse for safekeeping, instructing Arven to keep it a secret. However, multiple people ended up witnessing the Legendary Pokémon attacking several wild Pokémon, and the professor was forced to bring the Pokémon back to the Zero Lab. Arven would end up not seeing his parent again until the ending events of the game, causing him to blame and loathe the Legendary Pokémon for taking his parent away from him. Eventually, he and Mabosstiff visited Area Zero in an attempt to find his parent, only for Mabosstiff to be attacked by a creature Arven describes as either "rampaging"S or "a metallic machine"V. After taking a Flying Taxi out of the Great Crater of Paldea, he tried to heal Mabosstiff using a Pokémon Center and Potions, only to have failures due to his injuries being a special case. In desperation, he skipped his classes to research and attempt almost every cure available, yet he was not successful. At some point, he sifted through the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV and learned of the legendary Herba Mystica, and, seeing his chance at revitalizing Mabosstiff, began to research them. The player and Nemona first meet Arven on Poco Path, after meeting and being rescued by KoraidonS/MiraidonV. Arven was searching his old home, the lighthouse lab, where he found a book previously owned by the professor, the mysterious Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV. When Nemona recognizes him as their son, he becomes angry and tells her that his parentage doesn't matter. Still, he is surprised to see the Legendary Pokémon outside of Area Zero, and the weakened state that it is in. After he learns the truth of what actually happened, he challenges the player to a battle to test whether or not they can control the Paradox Pokémon. After the battle, he lets the player take the Legendary off of his hands and gives them Koraidon's Poké BallS/Miraidon's Poké BallV and runs down Poco Path on his way to the Academy, while Nemona yells at him to answer her questions. Path of Legends After the player's first class, Arven is waiting for them at the Cafeteria. Already knowing their name due to them becoming a school celebrity, he asks the player to help make his dream a reality: to help him defeat five Titan Pokémon so he can create recipes with the Herba Mystica, special herbs that heal any Pokémon that eats them. From his research in the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV, the Titans are incredibly strong, but because he isn't proficient at Pokémon battles, he requires the help of a strong trainer, hoping the player would assist them. He asks them to think it over, and registers the locations of the titans on their Rotom Phone's map. After attending the Academy's opening ceremony for the annual "Treasure Hunt," he finds the player and Nemona in the center of Mesagoza, below the steps to the Academy, conversing about Pokémon Gyms. He scolds Nemona for suggesting that the player would attempt to reach Champion Rank instead of assisting him in acquiring the Herba Mystica, much to her surprise and disapproval. When the player receives a sudden call from the mysterious character Cassiopeia regarding disbanding Team Star through defeating the bosses, he once again criticizes the idea, but is surprised when the stranger mentions him by name. After Nemona assures the player that they are free to follow whichever path they choose, Arven almost reveals his true intentions in his quest, but quickly changes the subject, mentioning how he plans to create the world's greatest sandwiches with the Herba Mystica. At this mention of sandwiches, KoraidonS/MiraidonV exits their Poké Ball, angering Arven. The player mounts the Legendary, and he tells them that the best start on their search for the Titans will be past the east gate of the city. Afterwards, he leaves in frustration when Nemona recommends the opposite west gate for the path towards the Gyms, informing the player that he will see them soon. Over the course of the game, the player participates in the Path of Legends storyline, joining Arven in defeating Titan Pokémon and creating various sandwiches using the Herba Mystica to both cure Mabosstiff and restore KoraidonS/MiraidonV's power. Fortunately, the power of all five sandwiches restores the Legendary Pokémon to full strength, as well as bringing Mabosstiff's health back completely, making Arven ecstatic. However, Professor SadaS/TuroV requests for the two to visit their laboratory at the Great Crater of Paldea, and for Arven to bring the ScarletS/VioletV Book with him. Arven then battles the player at his full power to test if they're both ready to take on the most dangerous area in the region. Defeating him concludes the Path of Legends. The Way Home Joined by Nemona and Penny, Arven and the player make their way to Area Zero at the Great Crater of Paldea, following the professor's request, and are tasked with visiting four research stations to unlock the door to the professor's laboratory at the bottom. Arven initially butts heads with Penny, jealous of her and Nemona's friendship with the player, but later opens up about his lonely past to them, with him and Penny exchanging apologies and becoming friends. The further the group descends into Area Zero, the more they begin to encounter peculiar Pokémon, with similarities to those of the present day but with primevalS/mechanicalV qualities. Professor SadaS/TuroV reveals them to be Pokémon successfully summoned from a time machine they built in the Area Zero Depths. Arven attempts to ask the professor why they were called to Area Zero, but they become hesitant and request that they wait until they are face-to-face for a proper explanation. Seeing how the professor addresses the player as the one they hope to fix things, Arven hands them the copy of the ScarletS/VioletV Book. Upon reaching another research station, Arven and the player are surprised to see a Great TuskS/Iron TreadsV, just like the Quaking Earth Titan they faced previously. The pair defeat it, with Arven speculating if the Titan Pokémon they encountered on the surface of Paldea also came from Area Zero. Inside another research station, the Professor reveals that the KoraidonS/MiraidonV the player has been traveling with is only one of two species they were able to bring over to Area Zero, and Arven recounts his experiences with the dragon, and how he grew to hate it for playing a part in his parent's neglect. Arven and the others make their way to the final research station, where the message sent by Professor SadaS/TuroV suddenly glitches out and "restarts", and though the professor attempts to play it off as transmission difficulties, an aggrieved Arven quickly realizes for himself that they haven't been talking to the real Professor at all. The player's group eventually reaches the Zero Lab, where the Professor warns them of the Paradox Pokémon within that may try to escape. Concerned about the battle ahead, Arven suggests the player bring out KoraidonS/MiraidonV to assist them, remembering its strength and theorizing that being in Area Zero may coerce it out of its timid nature. The group and KoraidonS/MiraidonV watch as the door to the Zero Lab opens, only to be briefly confronted by the second KoraidonS/MiraidonV, whose aggressive disposition nearly initiates a battle before it sees the open Zero Lab and ventures inside. Arven and the others only have a brief moment to calm down before they are ambushed by the Paradox Pokémon escaping from the Zero Lab entrance. Arven assists the player in fighting a Flutter ManeS/Iron JugulisV before telling the player to take their dragon and go on ahead into the Zero Lab. He also gives KoraidonS/MiraidonV a pep talk, encouraging it to stand up to its aggressive brethren before turning his attention to the remaining Brute BonnetS/Iron HandsV. Arven, Nemona and Penny manage to catch up to the player in the time machine chamber just as they have defeated the AI Professor SadaS/TuroV. Arven demands the robot identify themselves, but is surprised when the AI responds with the professor's voice, apologizing to their son for neglecting him for so long. Suddenly, the professor's Paradise Protection Protocol is initiated, locking all Poke Balls not matching the professor's ID. As the AI is overcome by Terastal energy, it warns the children to run before being fully disabled and overtaken by the program, which forces it to send out the aggressive KoraidonS/MiraidonV. Arven watches as the player is forced to respond with their own KoraidonS/MiraidonV, due to the Poke Ball matching the professor's ID. As Arven, Nemona and Penny cheer the player and the dragon on, the latter is reinvigorated and regains its battle form. With Penny noticing the player's Tera Orb glowing, Arven calls for the player to finish it with Terastallization, and their KoraidonS/MiraidonV uses a Dragon-type Tera Blast to defeat their aggressive counterpart, freeing the AI professor from the protocol's influence in the process. The AI, however, recognizes that its systems are so integrally connected with the time machine that the machine cannot be shut down as long as it remains present, and so decides to permanently shut the machine down by personally using it one last time to visit the distant pastS/futureV the real professor dreamed of seeing. Before it departs, the AI apologizes to Arven again for hiding the truth from him, but reveals that it inherited all of the real professor's thoughts and wishes, and that Arven's motherS/fatherV truly loved him. Arven is distraught at the revelations, but can only shout for them one last time before the time machine activates, sends the AI professor away, and completely shuts down. As the group leaves Area Zero, Arven reflects on his earlier suspicions about the professor's true nature, but how he couldn't help but want to believe they were real anyway. He is comforted by the others, who decide to cheer him up by deciding to take a slow and scenic route back to Mesagoza, concluding The Way Home and the main game. Post-game Director Clavell calls Arven and the other three to his office to congratulate them for their unsupervised-yet-heroic endeavors in Area Zero. He apologizes to Arven for the loss of his parent, but Arven remarks that the whole experience helped to clear his head a little, before deciding not to reminisce in the past too much and look forward to graduating with his friends. Unfortunately for Arven, this means catching up on a multitude of academy credits required for him to graduate. The player battles Arven as their first opponent in the first Academy Ace Tournament. In subsequent Academy Ace Tournaments, he can be battled again as a random opponent. Mochi Mayhem After the player receives the Mythical Pecha Berry and inspects the peculiar toy at Peachy's, Arven calls them, wondering if he can hang out with them at their house. The player agrees and returns home to meet him, only to find Nemona and Penny as part of the welcome party. Arven apologizes, since the other two overheard his call and invited themselves over, but the player reassures him it's fine and invites them all inside. After dinner and dessert, the player reveals their invitation to Kitakami from their new friend Kieran, and that Kieran provided extra tickets in case the player wanted to bring friends. Arven and the others accept the offer and decide to meet up in front of the southern gate of Mesagoza to leave. The player returns to Kitakami with their Paldea buddies in tow and meet Kieran at his house. Though Arven retains a bit of old jealousy over the player having friends other than him, he soon realizes Kieran is a good person and feels bad for attempting to antagonize him. Just then, Carmine arrives, performing a weird dance, repeatedly chanting "mochi", and generally not acting her usual self. Kieran is concerned by his sister's peculiar behavior, though Arven and the others encourage him to stay positive. That night at the Community Center, Arven wants to change the TV display channel, tired of seeing the same tourism video on repeat, but Kieran tells him that the caretaker hid the remote, so Arven and the others race to find it, agreeing that whoever finds it gets to choose what to do with it. The player finds the remote first, but they also discover Nemona's sudden disappearance. While Arven and Penny wait in the Community Center, the player and Kieran go outside to find Nemona, only to be confronted by Kieran's grandparents and other citizens in battle, all acting the same as Carmine. Meanwhile, Arven and Penny step outside for a moment, worried about the other two, but are also confronted by mochi-crazy citizens. Holed up at Peachy's, Arven calls the player to let them know what's going on, but the call abruptly ends when a strange creature frightens Penny into knocking Arven over and dropping his phone, so the player and Kieran rush back to Peachy's to help them. Arven is not completely convinced that Penny wasn't hallucinating, until he notices the creature - Pecharunt - floating above the roof of Peachy's. Penny confirms it as what she saw earlier, but before the group can theorize further, Pecharunt attacks them by flinging toxic mochi from itself towards their mouths. While Arven and Penny unknowingly eat their mochi, the player dodges theirs and Kieran is spared when his mochi bonks him on the head. Arven and Penny soon fall under Pecharunt's control and start dancing like the others, though Arven's dance is much more reserved, and he appears extremely embarrassed to be forced to dance. The player and Kieran defeat Arven and Penny in a Multi Battle before chasing after the fleeing Pecharunt, who summons Arven and Penny, along with the rest of Mossui Town's villagers, to pin the player and Kieran at Loyalty Plaza. Kieran holds the horde off while the player defeats a mind-controlled Nemona and catches Pecharunt, freeing Arven and the others from its mochi-maddening clutches. Arven can barely recall what happened before Pecharunt took control of him, but Kieran and the player fill him and Penny in on the night's events. After spending some more peaceful time in Kitakami, the player and the others prepare to leave for Paldea, but not before thanking Kieran and Carmine for their hospitality. Arven apologizes to Kieran for initially antagonizing him, and while Kieran barely noticed, Carmine half-jokingly encourages Arven to keep doing so. After the end of Mochi Mayhem, Arven can be invited as a coach to Blueberry Academy and battled once per invitation. After talking to the player a third time (once per invitation), he offers to trade the player a Skwovet with its Hidden Ability, Gluttony In his dorm room "What do you think? Welcome to Chez Arven! Well, Chez Arven and Mabosstiff, really." It really screams "Arven"!: "Hehehe... Yeah, I know, right? Wait—what screams 'Arven' to you?" It's surprisingly clean!: "Why's that surprising?! I'll have you know that I clean every single day! Mostly 'cause Mabosstiff sheds a ton, but still..." "Anyway, uh... About the reason you saw me studying in the classroom like that..." "I went back and read the pages about the Herba Mystica in the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV again. It made me remember how things were back when Mabosstiff was all weak and everything. I couldn't seem to do anything to help him, and...boy, it sure didn't feel good. 'Course, I'm really glad that I was able to find all the Herba Mystica together with you. But there's got to be other people who are still suffering the same way I was back then, worrying about their Pokémon that're sick or hurt." "So... So I...I, uh..." "Don't laugh, OK?" "I've decided that I...I'm gonna become a cook! I'm gonna make super healthy food, bursting full of the stuff Pokémon need to feel great!" "Yeah! And thanks. I wish I could've gone along too!" Oh, it's not that big of a deal...: "Are you kidding me?! Man, acting like this kinda thing's normal. What a world traveler!" "Now that I think about it, it's been one crazy thing after another since you came to our school. I guess you've still been real busy lately, but are things starting to settle down?
