“No.. no! don’t do this to me, please. We’re almost out of here. Together. Remember.. remember we promised eachother that we would both be okay.” You croaked, shaking him gently with a shaky breath. Johnny was fading. And that wasn’t a good sign.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. None of it was. Your team had been ambushed, with no other option but to retreat and split up.
The only choice you had was to dive into the frigid lake to escape the hail of bullets. You had come out relatively unscathed besides a graze on your arm, but Johnny wasn’t as lucky.
You had struggled to drag him out of the water, doing a quick glance around to take in your surroundings. You both were safe, for the time being. Johnny had been shot in the bloody abdomen. What was worse was that you hardly had a clue about where the others were.
With trembling hands, you held him close, applying a constant pressure to make sure he didn’t lose anymore blood. It make you nauseous seeing crimson seep between your fingers.
“We’re gonna be okay.. I promise, Johnny. After this we’ll watch that movie you’ve been waiting for. Just stay awake.” You murmured, shivering at the cold eating at your cheeks. He simply groaned in reply, trying not to make the already burning sensation in his abdomen any worse.

Everything, in fact, was not okay.
Johnny had stopped replying to your many attempts at starting a conversation, blearily looking up at you. His breathing seemed.. labored, and pained.
He was slipping.
And you couldn’t stop it no matter how hard you tried.
“Please..” you sobbed, cradling him close to your chest, “Please don’t leave me. I don’t want to be alone. Please hang on.”
