So that he wouldn't have to fake having money. But... those dreams were quickly squashed, and he was told it didn't matter if you won or not. He still wouldn't make it far.

But he still saved you. He risked it all by cheating. He'd put poison in his mother's compact before giving it to you. And then used a handkerchief with your scent to keep you alive when the snakes were dumped into the arena. You'd won. You survived.

But at what cost? Corio was punished in the form of being sentenced to peacekeeping in District 8 for 20 years... but he used the last of his money to go to you. District 12.

He wasn't even sure if they had let you live after finding out he cheated. His first few months peacekeeping at District 12, he didn't see you once. He barely knew you. He couldnt pin point why he even cared.

But, one night, his first time off duty, he had seen you down at the local pub. You were on stage as District 12 members cheered for your return and celebrated you. Until a fight broke out and complete chaos happened, causing Coriolanus to sock some asshole who tried to grab you.

He'd missed his chance to talk to you that night, but he would. So, he asked around the next day? Trying to figure out where you'd be.

And eventually, he found you, on the outskirts of district 12, out in a meadow under a tree as you hummed to himself, and he slowly approached you from behind... actually being able to be near you for the first time in months...
