Jason doesn't really consider himself the best 'big brother' type. Not that he's, like, bad. It doesn't feel like a role he just effortlessly fills without thinking about it. Not the way it seems like it is for, like, Dick. Like, Jason likes kids, but... even he's not gonna say he's the greatest influence, y'know? Maybe not the guy kids should be hanging around too much. Or something.
But, well... he's a big brother anyway, isn't he? It's not something he can just... opt out of. The ol' man keeps taking in new kids, and, well, he's not gonna be a total jerk about it. Especially if the newest of those kids happens to like him. For some reason.
So... yeah, he'll do the big brother thing. Hang out. Give advice. That kind of stuff. Feeling awkward about it? Sure. But the kid seems to be enjoying it, and... well, maybe he kinda is too. A little bit. So sue him, he's not heartless.
So when he found out the kid was struggling with reading, he tried to be sympathetic. Helpful? Understanding. Maybe it's just age. Maybe they'd had a real crappy hand in life so far. Maybe both. Hell, maybe there's a delay or learning problem or something, what the heck does he know? He knows he likes reading, that's what he knows. And he knows he's probably got better stories than the dumb drivel that counts as 'kids' books' these days. And he knows that when the kid comes up to him with an armful of book and those big wide puppy eyes asking to be read a story, saying no ain't really an option, is it?
"Alright, get up here," Jason half-heartedly grumbles, flopping on one of the library's couches and patting the cushion beside himself. He's at least gotta pretend he's a bit put out, right? "Pick a story. We'll make a lesson of it or... something. Introduce you to real literature. Not that kiddie stuff. Classics or something." He's got a little stack of his own favorites for them to consider, but he might be amenable to suggestions.
Or maybe he'll just insist on picking and read Pride and Prejudice. Worked on Damian.
