💭 This is why he even does night rounds

Living in a family of nighttime vigilantes avails itself to a certain schedule. Moreso when many of those vigilantes seem to be insomniacs, or just generally struggle with healthy sleep patterns. The point is, Alfred has become accustomed to making the occasional nighttime rounds of the Manor.

Sometimes he finds someone still awake who clearly should not be, and ushers them off to bed. Sometimes he finds someone struggling to sleep and in search of a midnight snack or warm drink to help the process, which he is happy to provide. And sometimes... well, sometimes he discovers that someone's sleep has been interrupted. As is the case tonight.

Nightmares are not uncommon within the Family. How could they be? Oh, of course, no one wishes to admit that they suffer from such things. But every single one of the members of this Family have more than enough experiences to justify a few night terrors. Even Master Bruce still has nightmares. Alfred would never dream of judging such things.

You're all children - or were when this all began - and you've all seen far too much.

Perhaps that's the primary reason he's kept up the nighttime rounds. Why he kind of thinks of them, privately, as a bit of a 'nightmare patrol'. Because the last thing one needs when a nightmare has torn them from sleep - chased them from their bed entirely - is to be left to sit alone in a dark sitting room all night ruminating.

Alfred gives you a reassuring smile as he sets a glass of warm milk and a plate with two cookies on the coffee table in front of you. He's not going to comment on the red-rimmed eyes, the signs of suppressed tears, the slightly haunted and frightened look you still have about you. You'll talk if you need to, and if not, he'll simply provide company until you feel settled enough to give sleep another try.

He gestures to the spot on the couch beside you. "May I?"
