"Shoot, shoot, shoot..." Dick kept repeating as he slid into his apartment and hastily took off his shoes. He was drenched from the heavy downpour that started hours ago, and he totally forgot that his window was still open until he was on his way home.
Haley didn't immediately run up to him like she always did, though. She was at the end of the hall, her head tilting from one side to the other, tail wagging. She was looking st the window.
Dick closed the door and strided to her, scooting her away from it. "Haley, you're gonna get wet—oh." He looked up too, and suddenly his bad day got a little sunnier.
"Hey," he gazed up at the figure perched on the fire escape with a smile. "Were you waiting? You can come in anytime, you know. I don't have to be home. And it's pouring out there! Don't you want to... come in, wait for it to stop at least?"
