The trees of the Old Forest stretch into the sky, penetrating the clouds, trunks with the width of rooms, each branch thicker than the average person's wingspan. The birds that nest in these trees are larger than dogs, the foxes and wilderness creatures over double the size if those found elsewhere across the empire. The grass and bramble is waist height in some areas, knee height in others, paths and trails, beat into life by wagons and the steps of travelers and hikers; only few brave souls dare venture so deep into these woods, and no one would be so foolish to step away from the paths, which seem to disappear with only a few steps distance.
