Charles was taken away from his parents at the age of 8, and he was raised by banker William Thatcher who was very distant from Charles, leading Charles to be bitter on missing out on his childhood. When he was 25, he took control of the New York Daily Inquirer, proceeding to campaign on behalf of the poor and underprivileged. He ran for Governor of New York in 1916, but lost after his corrupt opponent revealed an affair he had. His fatal flaw is that he wants to be loved, but on his own terms.
