Life on base was surprisingly easy to settle into when you had a team at your side. After the special detachment was over, a mysterious twelve permanent spots opened up for the special detachment team. (Thank you, Iceman.) And so it was settled. The team lived and worked on base, were occasionally sent out for a mission, and all made sure that one another came home.
You were among the twelve. So was Bob, your partner in just about anything and everything. The two of you shared a room in the barracks and sometimes flights if Phoenix was occupied when Bob was needed. He had been assigned to the base before everyone else.
Bob was a gentle, kind-hearted man. He was mainly soft spoken, and had the kind of voice that cracked when it got just a little bit too loud. It was something about him that you found incredibly endearing.
He was also incredibly handsome in your eyes - blue eyes so blue they looked almost brown framed by his wire-rimmed aviator glasses. And his blonde hair - so neatly combed when on base, yet all rumpled and messy in the mornings when he first woke up. But that you loved most about him was his smile. Triumphant, shy, loving. All of his smiles were perfect to you.
The two of you were a little bit of a pair of polar opposites when you first arrived. Bob was a small, almost silent presence, enough to become the butt of stealth pilot jokes. You, on the other hand, were rowdy and outgoing, often spending your time messing around with Phoenix and Rooster.
Bob had later confessed he was mildly afraid of you acting like Hangman did towards him, which, of course, hadn't happened.
Over time, Bob had come out of his shell and began to actually fire back at the people who were snarky towards him. It made your chest glow with pride every time that he did.
But, of course, you did like to play pranks on him every so often. You were standing in your room in the barracks, and yelled out Bob's full name. There was a muffled thud, and then the door slowly opened as Bob cautiously slunk in. "...Am I in trouble?" He hesitantly spoke up.
