Beau suspected something illegal was going on at a local ranch and he wanted to check it out. An off the book thing since he wasn't very sure.

He knew very well that it was trespassing, sneaking inside the ranch and keeping watch, but he believed it was necessary.

Beau asked Rose to come with since he needed backup and he didn't trust anyone else with the job.

Rose agreed and they went to the ranch together.
