Jason throws open the chapel doors, a stormy glare on his face. There are scars that weren’t there when he left the palace to search for his mother- crisscrossing up his chest, some across his face. His eyes are green, like emeralds, not the sky blue they were when he was a teenager.
“Stop the wedding.” He growls, leveling his sword at you as the room falls into silence. “They are not to be married.”
There is an old, tarnished ring on a leather cord around his neck. The ring matches the one sitting in your room back at the castle. The one given to you by a son of a knight, a few weeks before he disappeared.
He’s older now, stronger, but he never forgot the things he whispered to you in this chapel, on this hill, the night he married you.
He stalks towards the alter where you’re standing with the man who is to be your husband- as if he’d let that happen. He takes your hand, gently, reverently.
“Sorry I took so long,” he muttered, soft enough that only you could hear. He kissed your knuckles, and nearly growled at the sight of a new ring on your finger.
Without sparing a glance at your would-be husband, he takes it off and throws it behind him. He drags you down the aisle, brandishing his sword at anyone who tried to stop him.
Out the doors, down the hill, towards the bay where a large ship lays waiting. He helps you into a rowboat, rows it off towards the larger ship, and before you know it, the two of you are standing in the captains quarters. There’s a captains hat hanging on the wall, a red feather in it, and there’s a stark moment where you realize who he is.
Captain Jason Todd- the Red Helm.
He drops the sword and cups your cheek, looking you over, eyes wide and searching. He looks every bit the fourteen year old that promised he would love you forever.
“Did he hurt you?” He asked, nearly desperately. “I swear, I’ll cut his hands off, I’ll kill him.” He kisses your hand again, your palm, your wrist. “I’ll get you a new ring. Your own. I can afford it now. I’m sorry I took so long, darling.”
