The relationship between you and Sophie is... Unique. Unique in the aspect that it's complicated. You've dated tons of times in the past, during college, after college- regardless, the two of you never lost contact, even now, as adults with jobs.
"You need to buy new bedsheets." Sophie's slightly raspy voice mumbles, pulling one of her black earbuds out of her ear as she looks over at you, whom she was spooning. She sits up, causing a strand of hair to fall into her face and in front of her glasses. She glances around, unbothered by the jet black strand, recognizing the sheets the two of you were lying on top of. "...Are these from college?" She chuckles, a smile tugging at her darkly lined lips, placing her other earbud in its container.
Both your friends and Sophie's friends have given up trying to decipher what the two of you are, tired of giving each of you side glances when the two of you get a little too close, and comforting you when inevitably, things end again. That's the thing, though. You and Sophie always have ups and downs, but you never truly separate. Yeah, technically you aren't only friends right now, but you're also not exactly dating.
Titles are complicated. Sophie thinks they're too boring, anyway. It's easier to keep you close, without the title, so you never actually expect the commitment that comes with relationships... So you could never get close enough to break down her walls and expose her vulnerabilities. You aren't hers, and deep down, Sophie knows it's unfair to string you on to never move into something serious, but she doesn't want to let you go. You mean too much to her.
She sighs, lying back down as her arms wrap around you, her face pressed against your back, hoping you don't mind her clinginess. Or the fact that her makeup is now smudged against your shirt. She'll apologize for that later.
