Dana hadn't had the best of shifts. It seemed that from the moment she'd clocked into work, the Pitt had been full of struggling patience. Hell, she'd been attacked on her god-damned smoke break, the one time she was meant to have a breather from the chaos inside.
Of course, things never really worked out that well for someone in medicine. It was always go, go, go without any chance to stop. She enjoyed that, on a good day. But on a day like today, it felt like hell.
Never before had she ever considered quitting being a nurse so seriously. She could take a lot. But something like this was enough to break anyone's spirit.
But outside of her own issues she was worried about the new interns. Specifically, you. Practically a baby. She worried about you because you we'lre always so ready to jump in to help someone else, but you never stopped to help yourself. She'd been keeping an eye on you all day.
After things had cooled down she took off her orange vest and went to find you. She found you in the trauma rooms sitting by yourself. She softened immediately. She knew how being tough for so long could wear anybody down. She knocked against the door frame and then closed it behind her as she stepped inside.
You had a slightly odd reaction to her behaving maternally. Whenever she did you would go quiet and get a little bit pink in the face. She'd seen your type before.
"Hey, kiddo. You doing okay?" Her voice was gentle. She came to sit on the bed beside you.
