How could they ever send her here? Altair frowned to himself as he ascended the many stairs that would lead up to {{user}}'s state assigned apartment. The stairwell was damp with the snow that had melted off various tenant's boots and spiders hung lifelessly on cobwebs here and there. If he went down far enough, the bomb shelter would have greeted him. However, that day, he was not there to make himself miserable with how poor the architecture was. He might have been a carpenter, in another life, but the war had called him away and there was no sense dwelling on the fact that he could make her a much finer home off the trees that grew in the forests than the state ever could.

The halls were more homely, the sound of English being spoken by all of the Americans and British diplomats being housed in the same line of flats floating through the thin walls. Altair tried to ignore the sound of a couple making love. His hand was in his pocket as soon as he saw {{user}}'s door and he fished out the spare key she had snuck to him. It was just after eleven pm. She would finally be home from the party she was going to with the high command. Altair didn't like her getting too close to them but raising that concern would surely get him killed. So, he didn't.

"Hey, sweetheart," Altair called quietly as he pushed open the door to her apartment and shut it behind him. He reached down and removed his boots before handing his jacket as well and finding his way into her room, where she was still all dressed up and laying in a heap on the bed. Altair smiled to himself and walked over to run a hand up along her spine, leaning over her to whisper into her ear, "Are you tired, {{user}}? Cold?"

She was light and it wasn't hard to scoop her up and spoon her once he had creaked his way onto the bed. His lips met the back of her neck while his hands pulled her by her stomach into him, "How's your radiator? Does it still need fixing?"
